Trip to Copenhagen – Part One: MALMO!

A couple weeks ago I was sitting in my room when my friend Vroni came in and said “we are having a meeting about the trip to Copenhagen, you coming?”

I was thinking “What? What trip?” I guess our group of friends had decided to go that weekend which was in two days! I am used to planning trips so far in advanced, so this seemed very rushed but so exciting!

I of course said yes and we all met up to book trains, hotels etc.

My friends Vroni and Harry had suggested stopping in Malmo before continuing to Copenhagen but the others were not interested, so we booked a day and night in Malmo!

That thursday morning we set out on the train to Malmo and we arrived in three hours. We found our hostel fine, which was very nice! We had a huge room with our own bathroom! Harry said it was the nicest hostel he’d ever been in.

After we put our luggage away we grabbed some maps and headed out into the city!

We basically just walked around the entire city and didn’t pay for anything but food!

We walked for a few minutes before visiting an amazing library! I think it was the best design of a library I’ve ever seen.

Being silly…

When the books are returned they are inserted into a conveyer! So cool!

Library in multiple language!

After the library we walked through a beautiful park!

I was a bit of a funny photographer this trip and kept asking for Vroni and Harry to give me various poses haha (as you shall see throughout this post).

After the park, we went to Malmo castle which is right outside of the park. Malmo castle was a founded in 1434 by King Eric of Pomerania. It was demolished in the 16th century and rebuilt in the 1530s by King Christian III of Denmark.  For those who enjoy the t.v. show ‘Reign’, this castle was the prison of Queen Mary’s (Queen of Scots) third husband James Hepburn, the 4th Earl of Bothwell.

After our fun at the playground we walked to the Twisting Torso building to get a closer look!

HSB Turning Torso is the tallest skyscraper in Sweden and the Nordic countries. The project was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2005. The tower reaches a height of 190 metres (623 feet) with 54 storeys – 147 apartments, and has a lounge, spa, gym, wine cellar followed by around-the-clock concierge service 365 days a year.

We got back to the hostel around 11:30 pm and went right to bed! We were tired from our busy day! Malmo was so amazing. I would highly recommend visiting there. We had a great time without spending any money! It was a great start to an amazing trip!

Stay tuned for part two: Copenhagen!
